I once heard that the average age of those that achieved a net worth of a $1M was around 49 yo. Is this intended to include assets like real estate equity or is this meant to be liquid assets / retirement accounts only?
Understanding, $1M is no longer the goal but for those of you that have achieved this already - What was the age you achieved it and are you including your home equity?

Impossible to know without seeing the source. But net worth is literally net assets, so it does include RE equity.

Without real estate, 47 yo was my mark.

Hit 1M at 27, not including real estate. (Bought a house shortly thereafter.)

Nope! Though a decent chunk (less than half) of that was stock from being earlyish at Dropbox.

For the rest I just obsessively saved, lived with housemates, didn't own a car, etc. On a San Francisco tech salary and a cost-conscious lifestyle you can save a lot every year.

Without RE, mine at 39. Also I didn’t start investing until the mid thirties.

OP - bear market is the right time to invest IMO. Your first million may come sooner than you think! Stay invested and keep investing!

like

Without RE 39. But now at about 40 maybe 50 million.

Leverage and luck.

Currently 25 y/o making 70k/year in Boston. I grew up pretty poor and I have minimal financial education. A lot of my salary now goes towards helping my parents get out of debt. My parents are no longer able to live on their own, so considering selling my grandmas house where they live (maybe 550k), paying off their mortgage (100k) and buying a duplex (between them they make about 55k/year). Is buying a two family home a good investment ? How much can I afford to spend on a new house?

At my uncles wedding in Madrid I remember lying down on the grass in the courtyard after their first dance and crying, my Dad came and saw me, laid down in his suit beside me and asked what was wrong.

“I know my boyfriend wouldn’t dance with me like that at our wedding”

And we just lay there as I cried, and then got up. Had a drink.

Said boyfriend left years ago, and now I have a wonderful man who just asked me what type of dance lessons I want for our wedding next year.

Don’t give up.
