No, it is not.
If you just need to check the box to progress in your current role a 1-year MBA MIGHT be worth it for you, but if you’re trying to job switch or go into any of the desirable post-MBA roles you really need to go to a top-25 ranked 2-year program or you will severely limit your chances of success.
This. 👆 be sure to evaluate the cost of the degree as well. Time will pass no matter what so do do a 1 year based on time alone, as you will be disappointed.
You can expand the top 25 to a top 50 school if location and network is prevalent for what you want to go into. Such as a big city that recruits heavily out of the school into jobs you want.
The issue with a one year MBA is that you eliminate several potential job markets to move into if you’re focused on career transition (consulting/ IB are just two that come to mind) these have a pipeline in that almost always prefers internship and a one year loses that internship factor. One year programs work to tick the box off that you have a business degree to promote in management but that’s really about it.
I’d say if the institution is an accredited school and not a diploma mill, you should be good. A general MBA program usually requires a minimum of 10 courses ( 12 if you want to focus on certain concentration). 10 courses is certainly doable in one years.
If you’re looking for a new job in a large industry, employees like to have mbas come in as interns as their first year, then full time after they graduate
