I plan on getting it since the firm pays for the training, materials, test as well as a small bonus.
Just did mine exactly because of this. Not sure how useful it will be, but good to have in pocket
CSM > PMP
Depends on where you work - I work with federal clients and plan to work with them the rest of my career so I plan to get mine.
Good friend has never managed a project but now runs PMP training...people I know who’ve gotten “certified” say it’s just a money-making racket, unfortunately...that being said, still clearly can be valuable if employers see it at such
Sounds like college.
total racket. i have one and nobody has ever been impressed. but it’s relatively easy to get as far as certs go, so why not? it’ll probably take you fewer than 100 hours, including the 35 hours of boot camp.
Google “PMP Obama 2016”. The federal government sees the PMP as the gold standard. Definitely worth if you plan on working with or for any fed agencies. If not then I would pursue other certs that are valued in whatever industry you’re aiming for.
Thank you!
Maybe. What are your future goals?
Future goals are to be a well rounded consultant, and obtain a few technical skills along the way.
And right now I’m deciding wether I should start with more technical training or stay project management focused ...
Nope. Every other person is getting a pmp. You no longer can differentiate yourself.
With no college degree (military experience instead) and a PMP I was able to get 120k+ offers on DoD contracts. Recently accepted a GS-13 job with a PMP and still no college degree. PMP cost me like $600 and a few months of studying. M1 probably has a fancy degree (that cost a whole lot more money and time) and a PMP wouldn’t add much more value. Everyone’s situation is different.
We should make up another certification, get industry to deem it to be valuable, and then rake in the dough making people take our course, a la PMP
