I got one 2 month before my mat leave. This is not normal and kind of assholish
That’s a dick move. I received the standard annual bump during both mat leaves. Also make sure you’re talking to the right person. At most agencies I’ve worked at typically only HR or department heads actually have the scoop on salary and raise details. The fact that anyone thinks that’s an appropriate rationale for not giving someone a raise is disgusting.
Abandon ship and blast the shop publicly. Honestly it’s gross and other people should know to stay away from this place.
