Not sure if this is just in my head and the grass looks greener on the other side . I currently work in program mgmt at Apple and wanted to understand if anyone has made the switch from faang to consulting? Is the pay and lifestyle rewarding. What level should I expect at FAANG? I have a PhD in CS from a world top 10 university. I did a PhD after working 3 years in the industry, and since my PhD, another 3 years have passed. Currently I'm a staff engineer in the semiconductor industry (hence no FAANG). On seniority: 50% I'm acting tech & team lead, scrum master, regularly negotiating with stakeholders, across multiple teams etc., 50% actively developing. Options: generalist SWE at Google /Facebook (Meta) or embedded SWE at Meta.

They didn’t break up Microsoft and it was absolutely clear that was a monopoly.
Biggest changes would come from apple (or google) imposing privacy restrictions on apps on its devices, hurting FB's ability to mine and monetize data. Would take years to implement, but smart big dollar advertisers are starting to pay more attention to spending in brand safe environments (aka not ending up in a Q conspiracy thread). So long as FB has a far superior data/targeting proposition to alternatives I think they keep winning dollars, but losing this advantage could push a big shift in ad spend. TL;DR regulators won't be FB's undoing, other big tech will

Thank you! This was very insightful
Based on Lina Khan’s work, which is arguably worst case scenario for Faang. I would suspect that they split up subsidiaries so Facebook is separated for Insta. I don’t think it will make a huge difference in terms of pay/career trajectory.
Unless you are in a group that oversees integration between Facebook and its acquisitions.

The EU sued Intel for antitrust violations 10 years ago and they're still fighting appeals in court. It's fine for a stint in the next few years.
Possible but unlikely in the short-term. More likely over the long-term.
