Audit is now about having an average of 50 hrs each week of billable work. Gone are the days of slow summer and interim. Hello busy season all year......
Insane
Public accounting work balance has changed and disappeared so much in the last 5 to 7 years it's insane.
Agreed. Downhill steadily since 2017. Things have changed DRASTICALLY imo. Starting working in 2015 and the difference now in 2025 is really discouraging; I plan to get out soon because it truly feels so stressful year round now.
Left as an auditor and moved on to corporate jobs, work life balance and pay is higher than audit jobs. Health is more important my brother.
im not in audit but i did hear that internal audit has normal hours (granted you can take what i say with a grain of salt). i heard PA Audit hours can be rough during certain times of year
Sure on a part time schedule with reduced pay and benefits
Outside of busy season. I feel like I’m still putting in 50 hr weeks in “slow” times. I’m tired
I have been doing a minimum of 50 billable hours per week since last December. I hate my life.
We just recently changed 'busy season' hours to 50 for the industry groups that have 6/30s and 12/31s. The other industries are still 40 all year and 55 in the winter. That being said, it's always an estimate and can be more. Personally, I took a reduced schedule, so I rarely work more than 40 even during busy seasons, but that came with a pay cut.
I have 50 hours schedule like mid August through October/November for non profit, but hours worked usually higher. And technically 40 in the spring, but all the 12/31s are rough on top of UGs. It’s June and I’m still trying to close down a messy 12/31 and it’s putting me at 60 hours this past week. The reduced schedule for pay cut doesn’t seem like a great option for me as an S1 since I’m trying to get ahead and not sure if I could fully be an in charge with less time a
Move into consulting for shorter hours. I’m at a straight 40 per week. It’s based on your client though.
