The standard wisdom is you should be aiming for at least 30%
Know of a director who just left to industry for a 35% increase. Not as huge as a bump as 50% managers might be getting but still nice considering how high their comp is at that point.
I got >50k increase on the base (~80k all in) and turned down a role that was ~85k all in.
I've never been rated higher than a 3, am in a midtier firm, and am physically unattractive.
If you're getting <20%, you need to keep looking.
What does “190ish all in” mean?
Everyone here isn’t providing actual numbers - 50% is much different at current base 200k then at 75k
I got 30% as a senior, lateral move
@OP - it’s a hot job market right now - in consulting and elsewhere. I’m exiting for ~20% bump on my base w/ no bonus to a niche firm doing work I’m passionate about (international public sector projects). My conversations with other firms doing work I was less passionate about were pitching between 30-50% raise on base. Moral of the story - yes, you can get a big bump if you push for it, but perhaps this crazy hot market could also serve to seek other factors too (WLB, substance of work, remote work arrangements, etc.)
Left for a ~40% bump in base as an SM. Potentially another ~40% in equity assuming stock price holds steady. Don’t know the answer to your 2nd question broadly but in my experience the % held fine as an SM. I think M2-M3 may be the sweet spot for when thinking about the titles you can aim for and overall pay increase
I think just keep at it until you find something worthwhile. My role is a director role at a tech company. Base over 200k. I got another offer for 170k which I turned down and another large company telling me that their pay band starts at like 140k for a role which I said wasn’t gonna work. There seems to be huge variability out there but it’s doable. All in it only took me like 2 months to get and accept an offer.
I left for a 30% base increase, and my new role has a big bonus on top. You do have to be picky though. I set my limit at needing 15% base increase to move but I know I had some recruiters tell me getting 10% was the norm and try to push those jobs on me.
Left for a 70% raise but I’m in consulting

It depends on the size of the company you plan to join. Many large public companies pay less base and more in equity & bonus.
