Not highest. Just be above average in terms of utilization but be more know as the most efficient and technical one. As a manager, my go to staff is the one i believe that can get the work done efficiently (budget) and well (quality). My decision doesn’t factor in if you charged hundreds of hours mor than average previously
It’s interesting that you say this b/c I’m in the top 1% in utilization for my region (even with basically taking 1 month off) and resented TF out of it pre COVID. Post COVID, now I feel like it’s kind of a protective piece from layoffs.
Kind of sucks b/c this was the time of year I could finally be under utilized (b/c nothing’s urgent) but now I feel the pressure to be at least 100% every week.
To summarize, no need to be the highest but definitely don’t underperform just because. It’s the time to prove that you belong.
It doesn't help to be the top utilized person, but it helps to be well above your "goal". I've been told by partners to basically try and be 10% over your firm goal, anything higher than that doesn't really factor into your ranking/raise/bonus
Thank you
Nope. I’ve been the top utilized in my region before and it got me no where other than burnout.
Now I sit comfortable in my goal range, still performing quality work, and having a balance while still getting the same raises and promotion track. I’ve actually had more opportunity come up with a lower utilization in the form of developing and leading trainings, developing resources, etc. I’m still a valuable part of the team, but I’m viewed as a more well rounded member.
