Eventually, yes, you’re protected against fraud. However, you’ll be out the money until the investigation is complete.
This is why credit cards are preferable, you’re only “out” a credited amount that you won’t have to pay back until the investigation is complete.
Okay cool thanks for the info! I only use my credit card but carry the debit card for any time I need cash
Nope. I have two accounts, one savings, one checking. I keep limited cash in my checking that's tied to my debit card, and move cash over from my savings when I need to make a larger purchase
You can have a separate savings account or two checking accounts and keep a debit card for only one. Not sure if you can direct deposit into a savings account, but you can direct deposit into a checking without a debit card, and move the cash later.

FDIC? I thought they covered this stuff.

Ooh. Good to know

I’m sure the bank would help you out if your debit card got stolen and your account hacked (to get your pin).
Also brings up the question of why are you carrying around so much cash in your checking account. Offload that money to the market or a high yield savings account if you have an upcoming large purchase
Also spending $1000 a week on food + bar tabs is crazy

I know nothing about chase but I think you could call them and ask?
Problems that could be solved if america had implemented mandatory PIN for their payment system
Bc pins never get stolen
Maybe move it to your savings?
Generally speaking it depends on how quickly you notify your bank the card was stolen or lost. You could definitely end up losing all your money but you’d have to ignore informing anyone for weeks

Many banks don’t care to investigate if you lose under $5k. You’ll be out until they’re done investigating (if they even do). If over $5k, the feds get involved and you are almost certainly getting your money back. As others are saying, avoid having that info stolen by just never using your debit card and don’t give your bank acc info out frequently

I keep it at home in a spare wallet and always carry ~$100 in cash locally (more cash if traveling) so I’m covered for cash if needed without risking losing my debit card
