Forgot to turn on cabin pressure....
Deloitte question. I have always gotten a raise each year, the only question I ask is how much of a raise do I get. But I’m hearing from former Deloitte folks, it is naive to expect annual raises each year however small/big they are? And how does this play in Deloitte consulting vs advisory? Do one tend to withhold annual raises in base salary over the other, or is this just a deloitte culture thing? Looking at exit opportunities all over. So lmk! I’d Rather get a small raise than none at all.

Yes. we mostly work days and they work night and day.
There's a lot of blatant generalization going on here haha. MBB has a stronger rep, and therefore consistently acquires top talent. But smart people are everywhere...long hours are everywhere...and many of us present / work for the c-suite in some capacity. Wherever you are, you're a consultant on the same side of the fence as all the other consultants. Until you join industry or create your own company, we're all in the same boat. And the same app.
They’re really not... if they are, my managers didn’t get the memo
It is. Came from a big four. It's a lot harder here. And I was a top performer!
I’ve learned an insane amount, but this place can really fuck with your head because it can feel like nothing is ever good enough (for BCGers... clients are easy)
Look close enough you will find an example of everything, everyone and every behavior across the spectrum of firms.
At the end of the day, it is just a job no matter where you work.
If you compare at a higher level, yes - by nature of the breadth of work for a Big 4 vs. MBB. But sure, as you start to have a more narrow lens on a specific Big 4 practice, particularly strategy, sure, there’s probably less of a difference. At the end of the day, who cares? If you like what you do and where you are, awesome
SO works at MBB. We divided salary/hour and she makes less. I work no more than 40 hours a week, strong believer of working smart. The culture where she is you need to be “visible” whereas I just need to deliver.
A3 is spot on
40h week vs client service
I started presenting to CEOs when I was 23 and could tell from an internship that was not going to happen elsewhere
No. Hours are long at Big 4 as well.
However, I have also worked until 4AM more times than I can count...
@bcg4 I also interacted with c levels as an analyst...
Agree with K1-totally depends on your group within the firm...my team works consistently late every night (or into the morning) whereas some other teams I know leave consistently at 5:30p every day and complain when they have to stay til 6 (lol)
What are the main differences ?
BCG so how are you doing at BCG? I am switching firms now, and wondering whether the up or out MBB culture is for me?
Are Big4 hours really 40 a week?
Daily 12 to 15 hours.
Interesting work at least, I hope 😀
