Is there a book or something I can read about first party property defense. Just started working at a firm and they basically threw me into the ocean to swim with no guidance whatsoever.

Has happened to me at my FP positions also. Been a ride for sure. Thanks for asking as I'm following the responses.

Same!!! Just googling everything and looking at cases and materials from conferences. What state? I am in FL and can e-mail you the resources my firm has accumulated for new associates if you like. I feel like I am drowning even though I am getting training. I have been here two weeks and think I have only billed a few hours because everything is taking me so long to figure out. I think at least I have a grasp of affirmative defenses so far lol!

Story of my FP life so far. Florida here as well, but thankfully no billable issues any longer. But, the learning curve makes other things fall behind.

I got invited to a second round interview with a big company. The title sounds more senior than my current title, but the work responsibilities feel like a step down. I am wondering if I should still interview (to see if they will consider me for my desired role instead or at least, get some interview practice for when a better opportunity comes along). Thoughts? Is it ok to reject the offer if they make one, on the grounds of the role not being a good fit for me.

I am a fourth year attorney and am on track to be partner of a small but well established ID firm in 2-3 years. Our bread and butter is ID but I have the freedom to take on any matters I like.

I do not want to be doing ID forever but I really don’t know what comes next. What other similar but more advanced (and better paying) fields of defense litigation are out there? Is the next type of civil defense litigation just going out and being hired by private companies?

For those who like litigation, but not personal injury and premises liability claims, why areas are you feeling the most traction in while looking for lateral moves to other firms?

It’s Friday night at midnight and I just got out of work. I am new to FPP defense. So far it’s soul crushing. I feel like a robot just doing the same pattern pleadings and discovery over and over. If I try to be creative or ask questions I get the response that I should not recreate the wheel… basically just cut and paste. My brain feels like it’s going to rot doing this work. Does it get better or do I need to plan my exit to a different field ASAP?
