Is there any way to verify if a Remote role is actually remote before the first call? I am officially done with companies that list a job as Remote and then wait until the final offer to mention it’s actually Hybrid: 4 days a week. They know exactly what they’re doing; they want the talent pool of a remote role without actually giving up the control of an office. I spent three weeks interviewing for a role I can’t even take because I live four states away from their headquarters.

Why not simply ask the recruiter upfront to confirm if it's a 100% remote?

Just tell them outright that you are unwilling to relocate in the first ## years of employment and require it in writing from the employer that this is actually a remote position before interviewing. Phrase it as wanting to make sure that recruitment isn't wasting the time and efforts of interviewing.

I interviewed for a hybrid roll today, then they said the it team is mostly remote… but local. 🤷‍♂️

funny

Could also ask them to describe a typical day or week in the role

Hi everyone, a question to the tech industry at large.

Why are people so hesitant to hire disabled candidates?

I am a visually impaired practitioner in South Africa, with 7 years of experience, and as soon as recruiters or business owners hear/read that I'm disabled, the conversation gets awkward and I never hear from them again.

Career advice?

I'm a relatively junior data engineer (2yoe), the only other engineer (senior) that trained me left about a 6 months ago and I negotiated a nice raise for the extra responsibilities.

My performance reviews have been stellar, but my manager is starting to look to hire a senior to help me deliver projects as we do lack capacity right now.

I feel like I might be missing an opportunity to ask for a promotion and hire a junior instead.

Any opinions/tips?

As an junior UX designer, should I use the remaining months of this year to refine my portfolio as it seems there’s only rarely job postings for my level? I’ll apply when I feel it’s right regardless, but I’m wondering if more opportunities will come up late this year/early next year?

No surprise because it was not a good interview. The recruiter said i had a choice to go to hiring committee, give referrals they could call about my system design or take another system design interview. I’m not confident about the system design because of the bad experience I had with the previous interviewer. What should I do?
