Depends on the scenario. I went through a recruiter for a job at JPM. The bad? Contract to hire because the recruiter has to get their cut for a number of months before it converts to permanent. The good? You can be pretty honest with recruiters about wants/needs and your situation and they generally are on your side with things. There’s less BS and more straight shots about the job and fit. It also seemed like more of a sure deal to get the role if they got you an interview, because you’ve already been determined to be a good fit before making it in the door with the company. I’ve had no luck getting hired at JPM on my own, not even an interview, but the recruiter got me in with a pretty painless process. I don’t love the uncertainty of contract to hire and the lack of paid days off during the contract period, but everything else was great.
It depends on the rapport that your recruiter has with the company and how good of a negotiator your recruiter is. But ultimately the advantage is to your recruiter, not you.
As others have said, it's situational. A lot of recruiters reach out to me with ridiculous roles that aren't relevant or competitive, but every once and awhile I get a solid lead and I did once get a job through a recruiter reaching out. Just depends on what kind of recruiter they are. Analyst 1 is correct, whatever they're doing will at the bottom line benefit them.
You get past the initial HR screener / bot BS directly in front of the hiring manager. Right place, right time, right opportunity…yes. It can happen. My colleague and I were both hired by a niche recruiting group (in mortgage banking) and it worked out. I guess my plug also is I ended up with a company I didn’t even know existed and whose job didn’t necessarily fit my criteria in my job search, but is what I enjoy doing.
I don't believe so. I have been ghosted by so many recruiters that reached out to me first! Drives me nuts.
