Got a random email from a supposed Amazon recruiter for a SDE position (which is not at all a fit). The email is amazon.com domain and there are no red flags in the body but it doesn't feel like an Amazon recruiter due to the tacky signature, etc. Has anyone seen this kind of cold-calling from FAANG recruiter?

Aren’t you protected from getting laid off while on paternity leave? You can’t ever get those first months with your child back after they’re over, so I would say to do it.
Take it. Off the top of my head I'm not sure if there are any legal protections while on parental leave, but it's a huge matter of optics for the firm if they give you the boot while you're on leave.
I think you are protected while on paternity
Okay, just google “fmla and layoffs”. Just think about it, if a company absolves and lays off everyone, what job do you have to come back too? I work in the HR space so come at me with questions and glad to teach you something new today.

Generally speaking you are protected while on leave and when you return FMLA cannot be used as a factor in determining layoff eligibility (so you would be no worse off than otherwise)
Take the leave, if the firm wants to keep you they will. If they dont, you may as well enjoy the time with your child!
I would take it and enjoy the time with your family. Just start early to find a project to come back to. At least that way you are pushing the layoff back if for some reason the layoff was already in your future. I'm currently on paternity leave
