Isn’t recruiter supposed to help salary negotiation or some questions inquiry? I got a recruiter who asked me to negotiate/ask questions all on my own behalf. And the recruiter also said typically people don’t have that many questions for HR before accepting offers (suggesting I asked too many)? And people don’t usually reach out to other people in the team/firm to get some info regarding work until already onboard? I don’t think this was anything like my previous experience.

I have 1 job offer that is an hour away and pays 45k, after negotiations (Research Associate Position at a University) .

Negotiating a settlement. I’m at $10k, opposing counsel is at $20k. My client won’t go higher than $15k. OC has come down to 17.5k and says his client won’t budge from that. Do I offer 12.5k so we can hopefully meet in the middle at 15k? Is that how the settlement game is played? Seems dumb we can’t just say let’s meet in the middle now and be done with this. Is there an appropriate way to turn down an assignment because it is non-billable? Two of the partners I work for keep asking me to write client bulletins and articles with them, which is great, but now I’m starting to worry about meeting my billable hours requirement.
