IT professional /w 17yrs exp in networking (routing/switching/security..). Wrote the CISSP last year because I wanted to get into the GRC / IT Auditing space. Studied for the CISM but didn't get through so not planning on paying for anymore exams until I 1st get into a GRC role.

Applied for a few roles, got rejected stating lack of exp. or found someone better.

How does one get into GRC/ IT Auditing roles at entry level (does 17yrs work exp count?) or mid-senior without the required work exp?

For those of you who made the switch to in house/corporate law, what was your experience like? Did you have to take a lower position to gain the experience or were you able to argue that your soft skills were transferable to in house? I’ve been in litigation for 15 years and I’m looking to make the switch. Ultimately, I’d like to get into Legal Ops, but feel getting some in house experience first would be beneficial.

My goal was always to get into a more broad HRBP position, but I've since worked for smaller orgs without a solid HR career path. When I ask about my career goals, they keep telling me, "Soon!"
