Effective Communication for Inclusive Leaders
Call to action: The art of inclusive communication relies heavily on realizing how workers communicate daily. Communication style and words can have a significant impact, either positively or negatively, on employees feeling welcomed and appreciated. Therefore, you must pay attention to the power of verbalizing and writing since it can shape how included someone feels within the workplace. Follow these common tactics when communicating with your team:
Use short words to talk about hard things: Long, complicated sentences make written ideas hard to understand and mentally taxing. Keeping words and sentences short can make your idea easier to understand and more persuasive.
Humanize data to create value: The trick to reducing cognitive load and making any data point relevant is to humanize it by placing the number in perspective. Use before/after data and comparative metrics.
Make mission your mantra to align teams: Your mission statement should take center stage. Transformational leaders overcommunicate. They repeat the mission so often, it becomes a mantra.
