My firm celebrates Hanukkah instead of Christmas every year. I’m a Christian, but instead of getting upset about it I let it go. I suggest you grow some thick skin and do the same.
@LawClerk1 your antisemitism is showing.
On the one hand, I understand where you’re coming from. However …. It’s a business not a funhouse. Frankly there is no requirement for a business to commemorate symbolic ethnic/social/religious calendar platitudes. We collectively used to understand this basic concept before.
That’s a good way to put it. Business is just that, doesn’t need to celebrate everyone’s everything.
It’s crazy that firms actually capitulated to the big hetero lobby
A10 so hateful. You left off the IA2S+. So do they not exist to you? Maybe you should be the one to look in the mirror for trying to minimize those folx lived experiences. Please be more inclusive. #SeeIcanDoItToo
Love u too babe!!! Happy pride to my liberal king!!!
A little off topic but I work for a firm with 54 employees. There are 2 black staff members. We are closed for Juneteenth and MLK Day but no observance for Good Friday. Are there many firms that observe Juneteenth or Good Friday?
Our firm also observes Juneteenth and MLK but NOT Good Friday. I'm catholic and when growing up that was a lways a celebrated day! The world has gone crazy. People will suggest anything nowadays for a holiday.. Give me a break!
My suggestion would be to duck your head and bill enough hours to the point your suggestions hold some weight. Change always follows the money.
This is the correct non sarcastic answer.
If you want to change the culture of an organization, become someone who's opinion on the culture matters.
Accept Jesus
It is personal IMO. *Hugs*
Jesus, came here to read open discussion but it turned out to be a shitshow, also somewhat entertaining but at a cost to some.
Why is it ok to use one religious figure’s name in vane and not another?
Your employer isn't obligated to celebrate or observe anything. Ask the questions that matter to you in your interview. If you didn't do that, then you didn't care enough to make sure you're employed by a firm that shares your values. I ask about observed holidays, along with other benefits, in my second interview every time.
I'm hetero but don't consider it relevant and nor should you. If it becomes a problem later, well ... talk to a trusted professor at law school. They probably know the Firm well.
