It's wild to me that so many companies require 5+ years of experience for a 50-60K starting salary. As a hybrid specialist, I'm only available to discuss roles with a salary of at least 80K. I didn't earn a 5-year degree or gain 6 years of experience for field technician-level pay. And some companies will look at you like you're crazy for requesting the bare minimum of your worth. As a frame of reference, just a standard Environmental planner level II-III starts at like 70+K

Got offered 68k after 2 years as a contractor (62.5k) doing project management/business admin in a tech department at a Fortune 500 bank. I have an A.S degree and working on my bachelor’s/masters may 2024. I negotiated to 84k NYC. I have seen interns get offered 38 per hour (79k) for internship positions with a similar role.

Thoughts? Should I go higher? I do my job well that’s why they decided to keep me as a contractor after my internship.

I’m a former forensic scientist that left the field several years ago. I recently received a subpoena from a case I worked and suggested to DA to have evidence re-worked by the lab or stipulation. If I am required to testify (as an expert witness), I would need to book a flight, hotel, etc. My question is this: can I ask for my requested hourly rate, travel, and hotel to be covered when speaking with DA or is that “not how this works” as the investigator put it?
