I’ve been a Senior Business Systems Analyst for 20 years and looking to add some new skills to grow my career after being my laid off. I’m wondering if learning Salesforce and getting certifications would help or are they somewhat worthless in getting a job without direct professional experience?

Considering your YoE, getting the Admin + BA cert would probably be useful, but for you to get properly compensated, you will need to be bringing some sort of expertise to the table, such as a particular industry vertical (pubsec, HLS, manufacturing, etc) Otherwise, your resume is going to be less desirable than, say, someone with Salesforce certs AND experience, plus a few years of functional experience in a specialty, even if they have less overall experience than you.

You will have trouble getting even an entry level Salesforce role, because people will look at that YoE and know you're either A) expensive, or B) temporary, looking for a place to get the experience necessary to get a higher paying gig. Most Salesforce jobs I've seen over the past 2 years, even the senior ones, are looking for someone able and willing to get their hands dirty, whether that's with solving existing implementation problems, or building/designing new things with config or code with a mixed team of folks delivering (on and offshore consultants/staff aug + FTE's). Business units are just not getting budget and headcount for people who are process experts/analysts that can't contribute directly to the implementation, as short-sighted as that may be most of the time.

Is IB worth the sacrifice of WLB? Obvious pay is really good but are the prestige and pay worth it if you’re planning on only doing it for a couple years?

Currently working at an IRA with great WLB. Honestly I love my job, the firm, and people I work with.

Also doing MBA part time at a T15 school. Thinking about switching to IB but I’ve done my research and I think I would burn out of IB in two years but I might be ok with that for the opportunities after.

Hello,
I’m a MRI technologist with bachelors in radiologic science. My goal is to become epic analyst. I do have a proficiency in Radiant. However, I am not having much luck with any applications. Almost all the postings require actual certification or build experience. I am thinking that I may have to go back to school. My options are either go for masters or go for another bachelors in IT/computer science. What could be my other options? Thank you.

Has anyone thought of doing of a masters in CS instead of a MBA to break into product management?

Hi all,
I’m currently working for a small technical consulting start-up firm. I make good money, have great benefits, and they seem very happy with the work I’m doing, so I know I could move up quickly. However, tech consulting is definitely not my dream job. I want to get into data analytics, and I have an offer from a big company to do just that. I’ve only been at my current company for about 8 months, but I don’t ever see myself loving this job. How do I know when it’s time to make a change?
