I’ve been a staff RN for 6 years and make about 41 an hour right now. A travel contract just came up offering around 2,200 a week for 13 weeks at a hospital about 3 hours away. The money is tempting but I’d have to leave my current unit temporarily. Nurses who tried travel after being staff for years, was the pay difference actually worth the disruption?

Just remember for travel the IRS regulations. It can be worth it but depends are you able to make sure every 13 weeks you have a job. Also they bait and switch offer more then lower it. They have also been known to cancel before you start or in the middle of the contract.

I loved traveling. The money was great and I made so many good friends across the country. That was the real appeal to me, though. I don't think I'd have done it to move within my home state.

I switched to travel for a year and a half and it was the best decision I could have made for myself. I was badly burnt out and benefited from the variety. The stability of being back in a regular job is nice, but I'm seriously considering leaving again.
