I've found myself in similar scenarios where I want to be open about being ND in order to help reduce stigma, but I'm also deeply reticent about it because it can be used against us.
I would say consider who the audience of the public event is and what reach it could have; think about what you would speak about and if there are any potential negative ramifications that would make it not worth your while (of course there could also be positive ones, but realistically I suspect there are more likely to be possible negative ones you are wanting to be mindful of).
No matter what you choose to do, wishing you the best!

I think it’s the recording aspect? Maybe I’m over thinking it? I just don’t like the idea of the talk having a half life. Maybe that’s what I confirm? How they’re recording other and what platform etc.
Don’t hesitate to ask those questions to the organizers to help you with your decision. And great work being a ND advocate.

I feel awkward because I have ADHD and the event is on world autism day, though it is a general neurodiverse event
That is a bit awkward.. although trust your Firm to have a general ND day. If you still feel uncomfortable reach out now and tell your internal team that you’ll do October which is ADHD awareness month, but they should find someone with autism for world autism day. Everyone should be represented
