Hey! Any Google folks know if it’s possible to negotiate fully remote if a contract role is hybrid? Personally, I don’t want to relocate and go to the office on a contract role given the current economy. Plus, I’m assuming contractors are the first to go in layoffs. I just think it’s a fair trade off if I’d be allowed to work fully remote. I’m also trying to have flexibility to manage my Airbnb business in a different country. Same time zone as the home office if I’d travel weeks at a time.

You could frame it as you've taken on more responsibility than was originally expected and make it sound like you're just so capable and willing to help that your role has shifted, not that they misrepresented it. That way, it makes you look good without making HR look like they messed up.
I am sure you also sugarcoated your resume too
When it comes time to talk compensation just stick to the facts. Don't be confrontational or accusatory about the reality diverging from the job description. Portray what you've done in practice as having risen to the occasion. Make the point that you've become a more valuable employee over time, and your compensation should be in line with that.
My merit discussion this year is going to be lit. They RIFd my whole team except for me and I’m now doing 4 peoples work
HR will just have you or your manager update the job description to include the missing or new responsibilities. They should then compare that to market.
There’s several possibilities
- If you are lucky they make you a senior with higher salary and bonus.
- More than likely, the market summary will come back the same with no change in compensation or bonus
- or they can do the right thing and increase the comp and bonus
