I’ve been doing sales for a while and I often wonder if the constant hustle is really worth it. The highs are amazing, but the stress and burnout are real. For anyone with a long career in sales, do you think it was worth all the sacrifices you made along the way?

It's true that working in sales requires you to use a lot of energy, and it can be stressful. But I don't really see it as being filled with sacrifices. I'm not working around dangerous machinery or dealing with the elements outdoors. For the most part, I talk to people. There are instances where I have to put too much time into my work, and that impacts my life. But overall, it's worth it.

At this point it is really hard to look at anything else because the pay is just really good in sales. While time isn’t always abundant, it does let me focus on other things that I just wouldn’t have the money for otherwise, at least now at this point for myself. Wherever you go, sales is a part of it in some way.

I left Audit at a midsize firm to join KPMG erp implementation consulting about 6 months ago. So far they seem to only want to staff me on projects with a heavy focus on technical accounting and audit. I've been on the fence about whether I should stay and hope to be staffed on better projects in the future or leave soon...

My company blames my generation for not being able to hire everyday. “You guys don’t want to work” coming from some overweight, racist, old coaster. I’ve barely taken any days off this year and pick up “skeleton crew” days any chance I get. I was able to work out a deal with my company before I came because of prior experience luckily, but they offer a terrible base salary and sham of a commission structure to new hires + no remote. Then sit here and can’t figure out why…
