I’ve been interviewing for BDR roles and finally made it to a final round, but now they want a mock discovery call. I’ve never done one before and I’m not sure what they’re really looking for. How do you prepare for a mock call when you’re brand new to the product and process? Would love any tips or frameworks that helped others feel more confident in that setting.

Write down a list of questions that would uncover client’s need/pain / timeframe for your product. Be an active listener and toward end, summarize how product would solve their problem based on things they said to you.

Use AI to your advantage! Ask for tips there and connect either others in the business to get their two cents.

They’re mostly testing how you think, not whether you’re a product expert yet. I’d prep a few high-level discovery questions (like “What’s your current process?” or “What’s frustrating about it?”) and focus on being a good listener. Keep it conversational, not salesy.

Most of what they look for is if you 1. Did your research on company/product and 2. Can implement the feedback they give you on the first run (shows coachability)

I left my job about a year ago to relocate, make sure it was the right decision and start a side business in the mean time. Now I’m actively looking for a new sales position, have tons of experience, but am struggling to even get a response from job apps. I am wondering if this is because of my employment gap? I don’t have my side business listed on my resume because I don’t feel like I have enough positive “stats” to report yet given it’s new. Any advice or recommendations?

“Job hopper” and “quiet quitting” are all schemes made up by boomers to make you think everything is the employees fault. When in reality people are just getting out of bad situations. Older companies do whatever they can to pay you the least amount and get the max work out of you. Except our generation will just leave amid we’re being mistreated, not complain for 35 years making 50k and 0 advancement.

My company blames my generation for not being able to hire everyday. “You guys don’t want to work” coming from some overweight, racist, old coaster. I’ve barely taken any days off this year and pick up “skeleton crew” days any chance I get. I was able to work out a deal with my company before I came because of prior experience luckily, but they offer a terrible base salary and sham of a commission structure to new hires + no remote. Then sit here and can’t figure out why…
