I have sat in those conversations too. It feels like we rush to replace instead of reflect. I think most organisations manage exits, but very few actually learn from them properly.
True
Just manage them. The environment doesn’t leave a lot to be changed so it’s mostly business as usual and just another form/template to submit to some high level leader. The current environment is get with the program or get left behind sadly
Yes true
As an HR person this is the painful part.. but to be blunt managers don’t give a hoot 🦉
They’re always “on to the next one” so it’s their meeting equivalent of sitting through mandatory HR training. They’re present, the light are on but no one is home.
Good cultures will want to know the “why” for retention reasons but most companies don’t care. Also for employees, what incentive is there when annual raises are low single digits 🤷🏻♂️ it pay to be a new hire rather than a loyal employee today.
If you wait until exit to ask questions about why people leave, it's too late. They'll say they're leaving because they got more money or better benefits, because their new job has those things. That's not why they started looking for a new job though. If you're not surveying your employees or having stay meetings when they're still employees, you're not learning anything.
Once someone is walking out the door, the leaders are right. Focusing on replacing them is most important.
All depends on the person there losing and if they felt like they lost a valuable asset. 9 times out of 10 losing the employee didn’t phase them as their performance is standard or under. Therefore exit interview is of no revelance bc they don’t find there input creditable.
