OP its not your fault that you laid off due to covid. A lot of companies lay off by last in first out and it doesn't reflect your competency or skills. I'm sure most companies will understand, and the market is just tougher right now. Best of luck
I have like 5 yoe but I’m not sure I have the specific knowledge or background to get into ibanking. I would actually be very interested in this type of job. Would they be looking for internship experience even with my experience?
Considered going back to school for a one year masters?
You’ll be good, it’s rough right now for everyone. Do something in the mean time to set yourself apart. Take a class, study for a certification, learn something new, make yourself an even better candidate and it will just make your case that much better.
Consulting firms are hiring a lot, and even a little experience might help if you are coming in at the entry level after undergrad.
Are you appropriately prepared for interviews? Being laid off does hold you back, but that should matter less if you're still passing the phone screen and getting to actual interviews.
Ya I’m grinding leetcode and have stories I read word for word. I was manager level at pwc but I think I may have been over leveled. They wanted to poach me from my previous role so they offered me the manager title when I probably should have been a senior associate. I graduated undergrad in 2014 and only got into consulting in 2017
Do you have visa constrains?
Thanks! Much appreciated
I wouldn’t tell people you were laid off. Think of other ways to spin you leaving without lying. Maybe some family dealing with covid? Wanted to homeschool kids and they’re now back in school?
