If you actually have a mental disorder you need to address that before moving forward in you career. If you haven’t already sought counseling you should do so immediately. If you need income in the meantime consider low end contract work. Only when you’re psychologically stable and not financially desperate should you consider reapplying for demanding legal jobs. If you do that prematurely you may well just repeat a cycle and creat another event on your resume that you will have to explain. Trauma related disorders are no joke but they are treatable and you can recover and thrive if you take things slowly and in the correct order. But your health has to come first.
Act like you went off on your own to hang a shingle to cover the gap in your resume. It’s not working out so now you are applying for in house/firms again.
A2 - just be upfront about it.
I think you should find a therapist and work through the mental side of things. Is moving home to limit expenses an option in the meantime?

I assume you’ve used up your unemployment benefits available to you? Can you move in with family and try to reset for a bit?
This happened to me last year too. No family move in with. I am almost near bankruptcy now. I am two months behind on rent. Can barely function or focus on my job search. I don’t know what to do feel like giving up at this point
Wow I don’t remember posting this
Take care of your mental health. No one else can fix or will look out for your mental health but you.
I like my job, but sometimes I really dislike the BigLaw culture. Try setting small and manageable goals and tackle them one at a time. It’s like the hardest stretch of a marathon—focus on keeping your pace, step by step, and over time, things can fall into place.
