I've been working in a paralegal-like role at a federal agency for more than ten years (and will probably lose my job soon), and I currently make six figures. If I transition to the private sector, do you think I could find similar pay, or should I adjust my expectations?

You can find jobs in that salary range, but it depends on your area of expertise. I know several paralegals who make six figures working in contract management. Do some research to see what is available in your area. You may have to adjust your expectations some, but what you're asking is definitely out there.

Have you considered in-house legal departments? Large corporations sometimes pay very competitively for experienced paralegals with regulatory knowledge, and the workload might be more manageable than in a law firm.

Definitely. Do you mind sharing what area of legal specialty? That would help direct you. Criminal? Contracts? Litigation?

If you wanted to work for your audit client, could you simply quit without anything lined up and then reach out for a job at the end of your two weeks? Private company if that is helpful information.

For those of you who made the switch to in house/corporate law, what was your experience like? Did you have to take a lower position to gain the experience or were you able to argue that your soft skills were transferable to in house? I’ve been in litigation for 15 years and I’m looking to make the switch. Ultimately, I’d like to get into Legal Ops, but feel getting some in house experience first would be beneficial.

Hi everyone. Is it typical for the attorney to take credit for the work a paralegal does? An example: I gave some ideas about deposition questions and some observations I made (I was asked about giving suggestions) regarding a witness and the attorney mentioned that he’s the one that had these great questions/observations. Zero credit or thank you for the work I did.

Paralegals: My firm is looking for a paralegal, and I see the job posting advertising the salary as $65-$75k, with benefits. Is this a good salary for a paralegal (Greater LA area)? I’m not the decision maker, but it’s been a few weeks with very few applicants. I’m curious if there’s something hurting the firm in its search.

Are there any fully remote lawfirms, ie you don't have to live in the state they have offices? I recently left a large lawfirm to go in-house which came with a huge paycut that is not going to be sustainable long term, but needed a remote position to be able to move. I'd like to keep my current job part-time but get back in a lawfirm too.
