Deloitte experienced hires, who all received written offers and in process of visa/ onboarding, have you heard back anything about hiring freeze? Or recruiter asked you to delay joining date?
My visa got submitted couple of days back and waiting for decision. When I reached out to recruiter to give her an update and mentioned once there’s decision will discuss on the start date before putting my 2 weeks, she mentioned “Yes, we should talk before you put notice” - Am I overthinking? Im not searching for a new job but an acquaintance reached out about a similar role at a similar energy company.Turns out 2 ppl threw my name in the hat. I looked into it and the position was posted 2 weeks ago.Their director wants to meet.I bet pay is one of the first things to be discussed so that no one’s time is wasted.Am I crazy for not wanting to entertain it for less than 20-25% base pay increase? Is it selfish to ask for more? I’m sure most salary conversations end in negotiation anyways?

Always negotiate - make it clear that you love your current role but see a ton of opportunity in this role as it fits your development goals. However, for you to leave your current role, you need to be whole if not better off than you are in your current role. Or something to that effect.
Always negotiate. I've told recruiters and hiring managers alike I have to turn the offer down based on pay alone. You have options.
1. Ask them to come to a desired amount
2. Put in writing the paycut is for a limited evaluation period to be adjusted to $X after completion
3. Keep hunting the perfect position with pay
Be honest about your situation and needs, but don't over share anything.
That is kind of tricky. Even the upper range of the salary is less than what you’re making?
On one hand if you think this role will help your further career and exactly what you want to do then go for it for the experience (only if you can afford to).
On the other hand, we can’t let these companies low-ball the salaries and be ok with it. You do have to know your worth and what you bring to the table.
Bring them your market research and try for more. Not in a greedy way, but knowing what the position should require

You should negotiate.
However, it is also true that experience and a better job title can be valuable on its own. In my personal experience, even though I have lead projects and teams multiple times - effectively doing a Manager's job - I never get past the Resume screening when I've applied to "Manager" roles. So, you may have a couple of years at a lower salary, but you will likely be able to convert that into a better role in the future.
So, you will need to decide what works best for you.
If the recruiter has been transparent with the salary range then I don't think you should negotiate because that probably means that's all they can give. I would just make sure you get the higher end of the range.
It’s worth negotiating. Worst case, they hold firm, and you'll have to decide if the role’s growth potential and alignment with your long-term goals make up for the pay cut. Best case, they recognize the experience you bring and come back with an offer that reflects your market value and current salary. Either way, you'll feel better having that clarity upfront than wondering if you left money on the table.
Always negotiate. When being asked about pay for a specific role recently I was speaking with the AVP over the area as he wanted to follow up to get the interview process started. When he asked about salary, I asked what the band was and he told me it only went up to 98k and I told him that was really low because that was what I was already making and he asked what would you be interested in and I said I could go up I would be interested in 108k and he said immediately “$10,000, I can do $10,000.“
Always negotiate.
