Additional Posts in Salary Negotiations
Im not searching for a new job but an acquaintance reached out about a similar role at a similar energy company.Turns out 2 ppl threw my name in the hat. I looked into it and the position was posted 2 weeks ago.Their director wants to meet.I bet pay is one of the first things to be discussed so that no one’s time is wasted.Am I crazy for not wanting to entertain it for less than 20-25% base pay increase? Is it selfish to ask for more? I’m sure most salary conversations end in negotiation anyways?

I've negotiated every offer I've ever received and never once used another as leverage. The leverage is that they chose you. They spent weeks interviewing people, decided you were the best, and made you an offer. They don't want to restart that process. That alone gives you more leverage than you think.
That's a good caveat to call out. I'm very fortunate to not be looking for work right now. From what I've seen on here, it's the worst market it since '08.
I once pretended that I had a competitive offer when trying to negotiate a raise. It worked but if you’re not confident in your lying abilities, I don’t suggest trying this.
