I’ve spent more time clicking boxes for insurance billing today than I have actually talking to my patients. I’m essentially a high-paid data entry clerk who happens to know how to save lives in an emergency. If I wanted to work in billing, I would have gone to business school and worked in a building with windows. Is the administrative burden ever going to get better, or is this just the future of modern medicine?

Unfortunately I think with insurance companies being so involved in what care people are able to get it is just baked into the current system. I do wonder what it is like in places that have a national health system and if it is any different.

smart

I completely agree. Now, I work on the administrative side of medicine, and I absolutely love it! I genuinely believe that doctors and nurses should be able to focus solely on saving lives! I’ve witnessed and worked with many burned-out doctors, and who would want to be a patient of a burned-out doctor? It makes patient care unnecessarily challenging!

I’m working at an insurance defense firm, trying to target my practice to L&E. I’m overworked and underpaid, but gaining valuable experience I hope to pivot toward an eventual in-house counsel position. Problem-I would be shifting gears to Toxic Tort. I’m torn between my passion and the money. I’m a second year associate. WWYD?

Seeking feedback on GAP insurance. I had a family member who purchased a car in June or July. They were in an accident last week and it sounds like the car will be declared a total loss. Never dealt with this before, so wanted to ask if anyone has ever had an instance where the insurance didn't cover the outstanding balance of the loan and the insured then owed money? Car was $35k, $7k down, finance $28k. Gap insurance is through lender, not auto insurer.
