I’ve upgraded to always flying business class for long trips. Comfort and rest are worth the investment.

Can you tie this back to FIRE for us?

Can almost promise you this was meant to be a reply to the pinned post about lifestyle creep. Show a little grace for the newer folks please :)

You don’t have to live like a monk to FIRE

I budget business class into my vacation budget. If we cannot afford to fly business, we cannot afford to go. Thats all.

I still can’t justify the international business class flight costs yet.

like

Exactly.

Yeah that’s an insane play Toyota, build some grit and fly economy and save thousands. Personal preference

Anyone try JetBlue mint to Europe? Thinking about it for trip to Paris. Price is reasonable for a lie flat bed which is huge for overnight flight.

OP, I totally agree with you. Unlike others, I feel that it is strongly related to the FIRE plan.

A usual approach:

“What will you do by achieving FIRE?”
“Live free, travel, enjoy life!”

“Then, why will you not do it if you’re coming closer to your FIRE numbers??”

I’m 45 and on target to reach my FIRE number by 50. Over the last couple of years, I've started to feel freer to spend more on expenses like business class flights, better cars etc.

I have to agree with you on that. When I am flying out of the country I always upgrade. I can't stand to be squished into a regular seat duinrg a long flight.

Should I be happy with just receiving my 3rd promotion in less than 2.5 years to Senior Consultant? Company growing fast, tenured employees getting burnt out/leaving and room opened up to move up quickly. Change in leadership recently as well. Have an offer to join a fairly new family office investment team in PE buyouts but will be a fairly significant cash pay cut vs what I was making in tech corp dev. I’ve always been interested in doing investing. All things being equal, is there better upside to take the fam office to do PE (at a pay cut for now), or go do another corp dev job? 6-7 YOE

My monthly salary is around $6.4k after-tax. Living in NYC. Do you think it’s reasonable that I pay:
- about $1.5k on rent
- about $500 on utilities and subscriptions
- about $900 on student loan
- about $2k on food and etc.
My saving goals is around $3k so been trying to adjust my monthly spending.

Can someone help me with this? I had a low utilization since pandemic, I.e., ~sub 5%, but never missed any payments. Would credit score be impacted if only one line of credit with a low utilization?

Scores consider the number of accounts that are paid as agreed. Your score was impacted because the number of these accounts is too low, or because you've missed payments recently on some of your accounts.

I’m curious why more non-US citizens interested in FIRE don’t go live in a no/low tax jurisdiction even for a few years e.g. Dubai, some Caribbean islands. I get that some people will have family circumstances (e.g. elderly parents to look after) so it won’t be possible for them, but for a significant proportion it will be an option
