I've worked in the nonprofit education sector for 10+ years. I started as a teaching artist specializing in Media Arts & Photography. I moved up into roles as department head, site director, & recently, Art Director. Being an Art Director was one of my goals. In Dec 2024, I was laid off due to downsizing. Since then, I have been applying for jobs endlessly at the same time, using my time to build my photography & design business. Where are the jobs?? I'm at a fork in the road, I need advice.

I didn't apply for a job that would have set me up for the future in the government. I wouldn't have to worry about money or future jobs. My boss had just given me a small pay rise and talked up the future and so I felt good. I now severely regret not applying for the job and cannot stop thinking about it to the point of insomnia and depression. I even contacted the employer but too late. It's a small town and rarely anything comes up. I hate myself and feel like I failed my family. :(

Deciding on a career path

I feel like my brain works like a consultant, and I would enjoy consulting, but I also looove all things finance & investing. While I don’t necessarily have extensive experience in the field (most of what I know is self taught, my major is accounting), I want to get involved in it somehow and learn more.

I currently work in audit, I’m not sure what exit opportunities are an option for me for the investing/finance industry. Feel like chances are are slim. Any advice?
