Get out while you can
You can't. Current project needs to agree to let you go.
Don't burn bridges, also what do u know about the other project ? Tht might suck, everyone markets their project like they are building a ladder to the moon
Yep. You're stuck.
As an analyst you need to know PMO skills, so if you're light in that area just grunt it out and learn something.
PMO positions are dispensable. Find a backfill and get out.
Rookie mistake. Never accept PMO in the first place. Talk to your manager and tell him how you feel. Don't demand anything, ask if there's anything you can do.
How the hell do you know it's PMO? Like D4 said, they don't spell it in black and white.
Don't worry. Better opportunities will come again. You can't burn bridges like this. This entire career at firm is based on being in the right place right time. See if you can turn this existing role into something stronger and see if they will fight for you during year end. Turn this into a positive for you and work it. Any role is what you make of it. We do not like people who just leave for another project.
Talk to your career counselor and get his advice / help if he thinks you can switch
Do you mean not PMO SA1? I've worked with him before so I know what he's been working on and he's offered me roles before but it's just never been the right time. So general consensus is that I'm stuck. Is it bad practice/manners to even open a conversation with the current project SM or should I just let it go?
I was referencing that it is usually difficult if you don't know the director or manager if you're taking more of a PM role. I'd do as the above is saying and stick it out, show that you are dynamic and willing to do what it takes. If it ends up being too long then communicate your goals as others have stated. Don't back out or you will look like you are not loyal and person of your word.
@D5 in a similar position, but haven't accepted the pmo role yet. I might be able to have a successful ye if I take the pmo role, but other role (which I haven't been confirmed for yet) will be immensely helpful from a learning/ growth perspective. What would you say?
D6 I think you have more flexibility since you aren't staffed on either. You should get your counselor to bat for you with the same points you just mentioned on what project you want to take. The 2nd opportunity does sound good in your case. Never deal directly with people staffing you. Easy to get into a corner. Have your counselor deal with these. OP in your case as a last ditch effort if you want have the PPD of the new project talk to the existing PPD and have them deal with it. Don't deal with it on your own.
I mean SM of course 🤓
I agree with D5, let both the PPD talk. If you ask for roll off, it can get ugly.
