I was asked to show my passport when flying to New Mexico one time... We worked it out eventually.
Well, to be fair, Austria probably is pretty high up on the list of "A" countries they get visitors from, though I'd definitely pick Argentina ahead of Austria.
This is not that surprising, seems honest, they can’t expect to remember all countries on the list
Isn’t that a big part of a border agents job though? It’s like saying it’s harsh to judge a consultant for not knowing Excel shortcuts, most people just use a mouse 😋
As someone who's been to Australia and is going to Austria later this year (hopefully), the words do look awfully similar. I don't blame them for checking with a colleague to be sure.
Typical... many people get Sweden and Switzerland confused as well.
Don't even get me started on Swaziland. Got to the point they just said 'screw it' and changed their name to eSwatini.
Oh, a boarder agent who is probably mentally tired with the influx of passengers coming through got confused between two similarly sounding countries (even more so through a microphone) as well as if they were on a long list that they have recently had to memorize and is possibly constantly changing...
