Just got asked to attend a ✨career-boosting✨ conference that costs $3,200, not including travel, and I’d have to take unpaid time to go. It blows my mind that professional development is priced like a resort getaway, except instead of a beach you get fluorescent lighting and panel discussions. I want to grow, but I also don’t want to pay a mortgage payment to network. How do you decide which conferences are worth it and which ones are just expensive hype?

I would say no, unless the firm is fronting the 3200 costs + airfare. Lol

Easy. Is firm gonna pay? Yes, then go. If not, hell to the Na

That doesn't sound like networking to me

This should absolutely be paid for by the firm. Why on earth wouldn’t it be?

Need advice. Have some credit card debt that I’ve been working to pay off. Have made progress but want to lower it quickly. We have dual income, with a house (~$300k in equity), 1 kid and 1 on the way. I’ve looked into debt consolidation via HELOC but also have ~$80k in vested equity in my company that I haven’t touched. Get equity refreshes every year. Would it be smarter to cash out $15k-$20k of that to pay debt vs. a HELOC at ~5% given that will still require mthly payments

Hey! Any Google folks know if it’s possible to negotiate fully remote if a contract role is hybrid? Personally, I don’t want to relocate and go to the office on a contract role given the current economy. Plus, I’m assuming contractors are the first to go in layoffs. I just think it’s a fair trade off if I’d be allowed to work fully remote. I’m also trying to have flexibility to manage my Airbnb business in a different country. Same time zone as the home office if I’d travel weeks at a time.
