For what it’s worth, the job you have is the job that people in the job you are being asked to apply for are trying to exit to.
A lot of places will hire pre-MBA associates for 2-3 years, with the potential to promote to VP if you perform well and if there's room. My firm doesn't have a spot open to promote into. I could probably stay another year or so if I wanted to, but I kinda want to find my next thing if I'm not going to be able to stay here long term
Client facing consulting role though focused on the specific sector unlike “regular” consultants. You will be expected to progress at a slightly slower pace than regular consultants (2.5 years vs 2 years usually in each role). You are also expected to build more “knowledge” in your area than regular consultants. You can switch to regular consulting later if you wish to and have sufficient sponsorship and pull.
Specialists are paid slightly lower than Associates - starting point will vary based on the tenure they bring you in.
Not sure how mid market PE associates are paid so can’t comment if it will be higher or lower to your pay.
Specialists are Associate equivalents (post MBA). TC of associates is slightly higher so you will probably end up with same TC (but lower base) than 180k
