The FCB network is short staffed. So you’ll be working late nights and occasional weekends. Especially if you are on a launch. That’s the nature of the business. If you are looking for a 10-5 gig, you won’t find it at FCB. Unless you are part time.
My two cents is to ask yourself why you applied in the first place? Did you want to explore different opportunity at a larger agency? Bigger salary? If you answer yes, then make that jump! FCB is a big agency expect there to be more work/longer hours, but also depends on the account you're put into. If say you make the jump and you're not happy about it you still have options! The market is open. Hope this helps out, and good luck with your decisions!
I applied for the position because I want to transition to a full-time copywriting career. I think I could be very successful at it, but I'm hesitant to leave a workplace that has good work-life balance. I'm of two minds because I know taking the FCB will advance my career and help open doors. Thanks for your input!
I’m a Sr CW in the FCB Health network right now. Launch brand. I’m exhausted & burnt out. Don’t do it. They’ll pay you a lot, so if that’s what you want, ask for more and then some. It was a good stepping stone but terribly organized and I can’t wait to leave.
Update: I'm 6 months into the role. I am also on a launch brand. And, yes, I'm exhausted. Been working 8am - 11pm almost every work day for the last 2 months plus weekends. Can't wait for the madness to end.
I’m in the NY office. Currently, my team is amazing and I rarely work late. But depends- is it a launch brand? (then yes, likely long hours in the time leading up to and immediately following launch). How big is the team/account? I’ve found FCB is amazing at finding people either from other teams or freelancers to help when things get crazy. I’ve been in pharma for 12 years, 5 different NY agencies and this experience has by far been the best. It is a big agency, as others have noted, so it’s a bit harder to make yourself heard/known with the higher ups vs small agencies but small agencies will have no qualms about grinding you to the ground.
Hopefully you like it here too. I've been here also for some months and work life balance is amazing. Of course long hours if you're on a launch but flexible time during your day if needed, no pressure to go in... just trust

So six months in and you realize the team or brand is not the right fit (read: it’s a dumpster fire)? As a creative, you’ll have the option of switching teams. Keep in mind, you’ll need to reinterview with other teams and the transition process takes time.

I've worked at large agencies and small agencies. I find that larger agencies have better pay and benefits but worse work-life balance. Though, as many have pointed out, this depends on the team/brand. When I worked at DDB, I got stuck on a brand where the hours were crazy. My colleagues on different brands did not have that issue. Smaller agencies, however, have inferior salary and benefits but the atmosphere and culture is a bit more relaxed. Thanks for everyone's input so far. It's really helpful.
