Hi All,
Looking to make the move from working in industry to big4 and was curious as to what level and pay I might be worth?
I have 10 years experience out of uni, as well as completed CPA and MBA. I have a experience in managing entire finance function of small/medium entities, but most notably solid corporate finance experience/strategy leading refinance exercises, debt raising, hedging/treasury strategy etc…Would be looking for something in deal advisory / M&A / CFO advisory etc….thanks Deloitte EY PwC @
Hi All, My sister has done Computer Science engineering Bachelor degree and has 5 years of work experience in India. She is applying for MBA at https://www.kenan-flagler.unc.edu/programs/mba/full-time-mba/ and https://kelley.iu.edu/programs/full-time-mba/academics/majors-minors/marketing.html. Her overall goal is to get into Software Product management. Any suggestions if any of these MBA’s can open path in the desired space or if she is better of doing an MS in Comp engg. to further develop deeper Technology skills. Thanks

Failing the PMP doesn’t mean you aren’t a good PM. It really is a soft skill that cannot be formalized into a certificate! My partner once told me to kick an interviewee out if they mention project management as a skill or strength.
Not discouraging you, just offering some perspective
Partner is an idiot, that part I agree! Many if not most are.
I partially disagree with Consultant1. When you are dealing with art rather than a science, you cannot apply knowledge and rules. Yes, the framework provides some guard rails and principles. Some are helpful, but most are generic and common sense. Put another way with a tangential example, a pilot’s license (certification!) can make a pilot out of a nobody. A PMP can potentially only make you a better PM, if that! And you won’t even be able to empirically prove it.
I'm sorry, I'm sure you must have put in a lot of work. How did you prepare? I definitely felt like you want to be 'taught to the test' vs just studying material. I personally felt the practice tests in the prep program I used were the most helpful vs reading the pmbok or even the self paced learning classes I had available. Hopefully you will pass on the next go!
Yea i think they change it every year. im not even sure about the strategy. It was concepts that i got hung up on.. it was the questions I feel like are more opinion than fact. My test had so many of them. I may retake it next month then after that Im over it lol i know certified PMs who are idiots and run terrible projects so this is all bogus
Did you die? If you did not die, then guess what, you can take it again.
Hi, OP, it sucks and I feel for you. That said, this can be fixed. You’ll study some more, take it again and pass, and pretty soon you won’t remember the cr@p.
Not dismissing your pain, I bawled my eyes out when I failed the driving test. 😉
My best friend took it three times and she did not pass. She has a Ph.D. from a top 5 school in her field and is not what I call an idiot. I also know people who have passed and are not the brightest bulbs in the box.
Are there practice tests and prep you can do ahead of time?
It is a test you can be too smart for. It’s not particularly easy. I know a few people who had to retake it; hang in there.
The PMP materials are often the opposite how we run projects. Best advice is to take a lot of practice tests and push out any real world application.
Thats all I was getting it for because most PMs I know dont even use the methodology.. not even sure how they passed the test.. the whole method us unrealistic but i took it with the PMIism mindset and failed lol
Time for law school!
It’s very much theory vs practice; it goes against what you know. I suggest taking it again, but just focus on the models and formulae which seem to be the focus on the exam. Also, I was advised to read the response options before the question so you can automatically cross some out in advance. Good luck!!
Thanks and i agree.. the whole PMIism concept is rainbows and unicorns..
did you prepare for a long time? I'm taking it soon and I'm worried as I've been procrastinating
Couple months
I failed POPM, it’s not big deal. Take it again. I asked my colleague how they studied and just those tips helped me a ton. Dont be afraid to ask others their strategy.
