Keep hustlin’ y’all! It’s been 1 mo since I left consulting (exited to a high growth tech company, pre IPO) and I can honestly say every part of my professional life is better. Hours are reasonable, work is interesting, I can make plans for nights / weekends, and people are genuinely excited to work here. Plus TC is much better (200k —> 350k)! I interviewed a ton of places and turned down offers that weren’t right. I just wanted to post to say thanks, and if you’re still looking, don’t give up!

Congrats, Op 👏 🎉

I had the exact same experience when I left consulting. I honestly don’t understand why anyone would want to be a consultant.

Congratulations OP! Sounds like a dream job.
Can you share which company/role did you join if you are comfortable sharing and did you have any prior tech experience? What are your recommended strategies to target such roles?

like

The company is late stage but pre IPO (think Stripe, Databricks, Better, Samsara, Brex…) and the role is in value consulting - basically a mix of consulting and sales.

I had experience consulting for several cloud / SaaS companies and played up that in the interview process. The big thing for me was to focus in on the right stage of company. I knew I wanted to find a company big enough to value the consulting skill set (series C and later) but one which still offered the asymmetric upside from high growth, both in terms of equity appreciation and career growth.

Congrats! What level did you leave consulting?

OP - curious what’s the change in cash compensation (not TC)?

This - would love to understand the TC breakdown!

I’m interviewing for a marketing manager role at a company based in SF. I’m genuinely excited about the role and the company but we’ve yet to discuss salary. I expect to be asked at some point, but my research has given me a VERY broad range. So I’m here to do a bit more research. I’ve got 5 very relevant years of experience and will have an associate manager directly reporting to me. Are there any marketers out there who can share their salaries in similar regions and experience levels?
