I never have but I think it's more laziness than fear of them telling me it's unprofessional. I would love to see one of the sallys or billys I work with try lol. But yeah I just be slapping on a wig because I'm TIRED
I've almost always worn my natural hair to the office. A few years ago I tried extensions, but I've worn my natural hair since.
I normally wear an updo these days, but I've worn twist outs and twists to the office.
It’s almost 2023, we honestly have to move past this conversation and this concern. Wear your hair how you want and focus on the work. Otherwise you’ll waste valuable time giving power to what other people *may* think about you. Show up as yourself, end of discussion.
You shouldn't be asking anybody for permission to wear your own hair. I'm sure it'll look less out of place than your wig does.
I would wear it honestly! Natural hair is beautiful. Do not be afraid to show your curls and kinks☺️☺️ I am starting a new job in January and I plan on wearing my hair. How is your team culture? Do they seem to be nice people?
I went to the interview with natural hair and got hired. Hair has never been an issue. But, I understand how this may be an issue in other companies (unfortunately).
I have. But natural is just more work and I’m lazy and didn’t detangle well. Now I just blow out and wear a ponytail of some kind. I never felt out of place but they would say things like how was I able to change it up so much. 🤷🏾♀️
I don’t think it’s a bad idea. It’s your hair.
Why would you not be able to wear your natural hair? I’ve never heard of this being a concern.
Most employers will not say directly that it isn’t allowed or that it doesn’t violate some dress code, but there are enough biases related to our hair that the Crown Act is a thing. Some people will still treat you differently if your hair is natural, especially if you don’t have the loose “pretty” curl pattern.
In my 20+ years of experience, I have ALWAYS shown up as I am. Why? It weeds out certain employers! If they can’t see past my hair, we’re going to have a problem anyway because I’m always changing it.
I have always worn blonde hair. Natural, straightened, short, and long.
I wear my natural hair and I haven’t had any issues. Wear it! It’s 2022 they’ll be alright.
