Can't imagine they're that different.
I don’t think you will get a significantly more varied experience at LW unless you have a specific practice area in mind (other than M&A/general corp) and aggressively network within that practice area. That said, if your goal is to pivot away from M&A entirely, going to LW could be a good move. Also, FWIW, the LW M&A group in Chicago is known firm-wide for being particularly toxic (and that bar is high), with some partners being worse than others. Can’t imagine it would be much better at all than K&E.
Latham Chicago M&A? Hard pass. High associate turnover.
Not to hijack the thread but I work at K&E Chi and considering lateraling to Latham Chi - does Latham have free food? I assume the work will be mainly the same, just figure a change of scenery would be nice, but a move between such similar places means those sort of soft benefits would move the needle for me.
Kirkland does M-F.

Latham def have more varied work than K&E so if that’s what you’re looking for I’d go to Latham. Otherwise prob similar. I think a lot of the experience at these firms is luck though so just do whatever you want 😂

This is pretty true. Much less PE than there used to be though. A lot of pubco M&A these days. I would still say more varied overall, but if there’s a strong interest in PE, LW’s Chi office isn’t the best spot at this moment.
Latham CHI has some of the most talented folks who work at LW M&A imo
