Deloitte may be keeping you on record until severance runs out, so you can still say you are employed with them till then
I’ve been laid off and/ fired four times in my career! Not unusual.
For those asking (incl in DM). I’m probably a little older than many in here. I was fired once as a waiter in college (working my way) for being useless at it. I was let go in the dot com bust from an early job. I was CTLd from my first consulting gig but landed fine. I was let go from a bank in a restructuring post financial crisis but had developed valuable experience. Keep working learning growing and never give up. Remember that your network is everything, and keep nurturing and growing it - people who’ve you’ve done good works for are likely the only ones who will help you get back up. My experience isn’t that unusual. Lots of seemingly successful people have not had easy paths. (But you rarely read headlines about us as we’re not the “youngest CEO” or some other meaningless unhelpful media crap).
I would probably not volunteer he information, but if it came up I would be honest. There is no shame in being laid off.
If it’s unrelated to your performance, but the firm is doing this across the board to a practice or office, then just explain you were impacted by the firm’s restructuring plans and it impacted your whole practice/office. Most other firms and recruiters know when layoffs like these are happening and don’t question it much, if at all.
I'd do a long gap and say I was traveling around the world.
Yep, make it look intentional
Per Dan’s Email, I thought the lay offs were over.
Explain that the company had a restructuring.. Be proud of setbacks and stay strong!
I’ve been laid off. I’ve also been fired twice by the same company—first time didn’t take.
This was an early stage startup—I was doing probably at least 3 jobs up to that point.
He had a budget to hire staff, and I was his first hire. What he took over was the executive part of the role which meant I no longer had to deal with my former boss, which was a huge improvement for me.
I came into my current firm immediately following a lay off. As far as resume questions go, that one’s relatively easy to explain.
Just be honest, keep it simple, then move on.
Fired twice !
Got laid off 2 weeks ago just signed with you guys!
How come you found out a week early? What offering are you?
We are hiring
Anyone being laid off, DM for a referral.

I was laid off at the end of last year and prospects were grim given the timing. Still I kept a positive attitude and told the truth whenever asked about my 'current' job. If you try to hide it they will find out and you may lose a great opportunity
