Left industry for consulting last year. I’m fairly certain I could meet the experience for PMP given my role in industry, but figured I’d go for CAPM first since it will cover the education hours requirement for PMP. I work with a few people that use the CAPM after their name. Is that looked down on since it’s a lesser certification?

Don’t do the capm. The PMP is an easy exam.

like

If you can meet the education hour requirements from elsewhere, do that then go for PMP.

like

PMP and CAPM both are respected, but there are way too many people have PMI certs. If you are qualified, go for PMP. BTW, Agile certs are in demand now.

like

Do both PMP and agile. You can do one after another. See my reply to you other question.

like

You don’t need to do CAPM to do PMP… you can directly do PMP and save money.

Agreed. Most PMP prep courses also cover the education requirements for the exam. I did a boot camp, and it helped fly through exam. Plus save time and money.

I often wonder if PMP has done anything for me. Certainly hasn’t helped with more pay

For documenting project experience, use the PMBOK lingo (e.g., initiation, execution…) when registering for the exam. Otherwise they might audit you, which will probably be fine but just take more time

One of the reasons I want to transition from industry to consulting (tier 1) is that I get frustrated when I have to collaborate with mediocre people. My assumption is that Tier 1 consulting firms hire really sharp people and if I can get in, I’ll be collaborating with folks on top of their game (not expecting much from clients). I’m aware there are personal aspects I need to work on like my mindset, patience etc etc, but I just get so frustrated with blatant stupidity.

Had this question pop up a lot recently - discussed here many times before, but want to see if we can quantify the discussion a bit. Let’s assume the vaccine is at 70% shots in arms by 4th of July (‘21), and 80-85% by Labor Day. In 2022, are we back to 3/4/5, or do you think parts of the remote culture will stick going forward?

Would you guys ever take a job at the pursuit of trying to switch internally in the company?

It’s always been a company that I’ve wanted to work at but making the same that I’m making now is what is stopping me
