Let’s say ICE plans to detain and deport 1 person like the student from Columbia who was picked up recently. Can someone calculate for me the rough itemized amount in dollars such an arrest from planning to deportation takes? I am trying for figure out how much they spend per arrest and if it’s really worth the door to door strategy they are using.

We also could spend our money better co-ordinating illegal immigrant jail releases into ICE custody. Most state run prisons do, but many local/county jails spend the money detaining only to release back out into the population. These are the people we should prioritize deporting and coincidently would also be much cheaper and make a far larger impact on safety…

Given 25 masked goons show up armed to the teeth as if they are going into a war to arrest a 20 year old, the cost is very high.

But remember, the Republicans handed over billions of our tax money to their Dear Leader to build his paramilitary goon squad.

And they are supposedly the party of fiscal responsibility.

It is not about money. It is about enforcing our laws.

Elizabeth: Not according to the current law of the land as voted by our elected representatives and enforced by our democratic government. Illegal is to be against current law, not made up/imaginary concepts.

No wonder some people are confused about illegal aliens.

lol you don’t understand the goal.

Making sure all immigrants and brown people know they can be roughed up any minute - regardless of status - is priceless

I’m for an orderly and well enforced immigration system but this is transparently not it. This is the violent thrashing of people without the ability or will to actually solve the problems.

By ICE’s own figures, the average cost of arresting, detaining, and deporting one person is about $17,121. Strip away the rhetoric and what remains is a simple fact: each highly publicised door-to-door arrest carries a five-figure cost to the taxpayer. Even a rough breakdown — enforcement, detention, transport — shows how quickly the total mounts. Whatever one’s politics, that is an extraordinarily expensive way to perform toughness.

*nipped this in the bud 😉

Well it’s all relative. It’s much much cheaper for people to self-deport using the option where the govt pays for their flights and gives them a stipend. Obviously, most illegals aren’t taking that offer. I don’t think there’s a middle ground between incentivizing self-deportation and going out and taking them off the street. Perhaps you can increase the offer.

like

It’s obviously not efficient spend to send patrols out in the streets and create havoc and unrest, snatching anybody and everybody that could be vaguely foreign brown, all to curb what is largely misdemeanor overstays of visas. The administration wants to paint it as focusing on criminal offenders, but the data that is even being put out by DHS doesn’t paint that as the truth.

Get rid of ICE, move the capture of criminal offenders to the DOJ and we’d increase the efficiency tenfold.

EY1, It's been in TX for years before anybody else started paying attention in the rest of the country

DPS ramped up 3 yrs ago. multiple times a day : infant baby seats and Texas DPS vehicles on the side of the I-35 highway with obviously non-violent suburban people in handcuffs.

Before that aggression started on a trip to West Texas in EVERY single place of business: signs asking people to take in children for the state - because typically that is who was coming, children fleeing.

Now they just put them in jail
911 logs show the children are being hurt, getting sick and it is not coincidental that we have a big old measles outbreak here right now

This directive makes NO sense; not from a basic standard of instituting effective processes, an ethical standpoint, a profitability standpoint, a functioning society standpoint, none of it is a best practice

This does nothing for any American other than those specifically contracted to profit off of this infrastructure.

(btw, No matter what you may believe, that's not you - If it was - you wouldn't be here talking about it)

TLDR: Stop lying to yourself - it is happening.

Don’t forget the lawsuits. There are the well-known stories and the quieter ones - they let out one blind man in the freezing cold and he died.

None of the math matters because this is all going to change back to the way it was...earliest the midterms, latest by 2029. ICE this, ICE that, ultimately it doesn't matter how many are legal or illegal but without immigrants America and the American economy would slowly but surely die.

She’s too hot to get deported. 8s and up can stay, think that was codified in the BBB

If you ignore the social , moral and economical part of it, the idea here is to meet a quota of x number of deportations every month. So by definition the strategy is flawed. You will be dinged if you don’t meet the quota, so you try to get there by any means. That is not how any kind of enforcement should work. So if strategy is worth it or not , that depends on the goal.

If it is about getting rid of criminals who are not legal, then it’s not. If it is about making that number, then it is very efficient strategy. For context , Obama deported a whopping 5 million during his 8 years. Trump’s first term was around 2 M. Obama did that without sending masked forces to American cities or killing Americans. Or creating a awful image of the US , which is drawing parallels with 1930s Germany

Who is more efficient? The point of America is to be a prick but also pretend to be savior. Right now, America is a prick and pretending to be bigger prick

To be fair, if I’m not mistaken Obama’s deportations were primarily of people encountered at the border, which have since dropped to essentially zero due to more effective border polices. So it’s not a fair comparison to deportations today, which are conducted in the interior. The key measure is really net immigration (or net emigration right now!).

This is it. We’ve found Mr. John Consultant

Let’s say you figured out the cost - how is it you’re planning on estimating the “benefit”?

add the loss of a consumer and tax payer to the calculation
