Hi there, I’ve been told that Deloitte (London, UK) is going to make me an offer but haven’t heard back and it’s been over two weeks. The recruiter mentioned it would be around the “m2 grade”. Any idea what this pay range is? … I have 3 YOE working in NHS finance and have applied for a position in Risk Advisory, public sector. Curious what life at Deloitte is like? Does a work life balance exist?

Independent recruiters (aka “headhunters”) are your best allies in this business. Well, the good ones are. They know where the jobs are, they will sell you in and give you great coaching through the process. They also will help you negotiate. Plus, agencies do not lower your salary to pay the commission. In general, you’ll end up with better compensation.
Note: There’s a massive difference between executive recruiters and “employment agencies”. The former will help you, the latter will exploit you.
I’ve only had experiences with independent recruiters, and completely agree with C1. Tons of communication, gave lots of info on who I was meeting with (personality wise, their role, etc), felt like a huge advocate in my corner. Chatted after every interview I had and she mentioned what the team said and next steps. Even when offered the role the salary was already where I needed it to be (and said it was the top of their range), but even said there might be a chance to get $5K or so more but they’d need to get approval which could make process longer and/or potentially look at another candidate.
Definitely feel I’ve dealt with a couple great ones as only positive things to say (and landed the gig both times which helps).
The commission they pay a recruiter is an HR/ operational expense not a salary expense. It won’t change your salary at the end of the day.
If you know where you want to go, going straight to the agency recruiter will be faster to at least connect with them. If you are looking for new opportunities/challenges, independent ones will have a broad view of places you could find that. Just be clear about your goals with them otherwise they will bring all sorts of options and it will waste a lot of time, yours and theirs. Lowering the salary because they will pay the recruiter is not a thing, it's a huge help for them.
