Congrats! There seems to be a common denominator in the situation you are describing.
Tbh, you’re probably taking managed revenue from them now that you are officially an SM and now they gotta find more to maintain that level or deal with the decrease. Another reason for an SM to be territorial.
But also make sure that you understand what managed revenue you are getting from this engagement. There can be only one EM on an engagement code, so it will look like 100% of that revenue is going to the single EM listed in the system. If there’s only one code, work early to get a written agreement signed off by the EP and/or any other necessary account leadership of what managed revenue you should be getting credit for so you can communicate appropriately to practice leadership. Do not assume people have got your back.
(This is different than sales where you can have multiple SMPLs.)
Thanks for the feedback, also for additional context, I’ve been operating as an SM on multiple projects for about 1.5-2 years and the same SMs have been with me since but were responsible for other work streams. When I communicated that im going for the promotion around March/April to get feedback on my case, which was mostly positive, is when the micro management attempts started and then I found out about their push back on the case during the due diligence process, the territorial piece is now making sense for sure.
I reached out to one of the SMs to go through the issue details and there wasn’t much feedback from their end, even the partners are not sure what the issue is.
Have a great relationships with the partners and clients on these accounts so im not worried in anyway, just found it curious that this all happened when the case was officially kicked off/submitted.
Operating as a SM for two years? Sounds like a bunch of nonsense lol
