How do Southwest credits work? Does it cover airfare?

Book a flight that's less than $100, then cancel.
Delta travel bank. The credit is good for a year.
I selected Delta for my credit. I purchased a Delta ticket for $238, using $50 in points and the remaining $188 on my Platinum. After a week or two the credit posted to my card and I canceled the flight. The refund was in the form of a Delta eCredit good for one year. I did this in December.
There is a thread on the flyer talk forum with more details and data points.
I normally buy half a ticket on points and taxes on the Amex. Recently I used a gift certificate to pay for half and the remaining on the Amex.

How do you not spend $200 a year on plane tickets or incidentals? If your travel spending is that low you should reconsider having a card that focuses on travel rewards
Doesn’t work for plane tickets
