Looking to do a trip with parents and siblings(all in 20s) to Europe in May and only have about a week. Dad/brother love history so we’re initially thinking Italy. Any suggestions?

Btw, we adopted Florence as our family town (if there is a thing like that). We fall so much in love with the place that when we were passing thru the area many years later, we stayed a night (in our family town) just for the heck of it. Don’t miss it. There is a church (Santa Croce) that has the Who’s who of that time buried there.(Michelangelo, Galileo you name it) Having a plot there meant you had arrived. The David is in a museum. Apart from Uffizi. Lovely lovely town

Italy is a good option. But if you are really into ancient history, Greece can’t be beat. Athens, Mycenae, Meteora, Delphi come to mind. In Italy the golden triangle of Rome, Florence and Venice is an obvious choice. We love to travel, especially to historical places, and with kids we started with Greece next stop being Italy. Wonderful time. All the best

Lived in Italy for awhile. Would strongly recommend taking some time to get out of the major tourist cities to see the countryside. Look for agriturismos- reworked farmhouses in the countryside. Florence and Rome are worth it, most people regret spending too much time in Venice and Pisa. Milan is very different- more big city/modern/business oriented. Some people don’t like it. Bologna has the oldest university in the western world if you’re interested in that. Good train stop between Florence and Rome and more authentic- not as many tourists. Perugia is also nice. Southern Italy starts to get more chaotic. Naples can be dirty. Amalfi coast is nice. If you’re in Tuscany, also recommend cinque terre- heavy on tourists but worth it.

If your family is into history, would encourage you to look outside Italy too depending on what kind of history. Guys in my family are very interested in Germany- Munich isn’t far from Italy and Dachau/ the World War II history there is fascinating.

Love Florence !!!!!

We took our sons when they were in high school. Florence was great. As was Cinque Terre.

If you’ve considered other places my brother and dad did the wwii museum in Paris, went to Argonne forest, did Normandy as well

If you’re really into history then Turkey can’t be beat. The Greek ruins there are in much better shape than most of the ruins in Greece (i.e. Ephesus) and Istanbul is probably my favorite city in the world.

Also used to live in Italy and agree with C1. Rome and Florence are a must. I prefer the north over the south. The lake region is gorgeous and so is Piemonte and it’s capital, Torino. Torino has a ton of history with the Savoia family, unifying Italy and holding its first parliament

Also has great baroque architecture and there are parallels in feel between Paris and Torino
